What I liked

By far what has made my summer internship a great one has been the people. There are a multitude of projects that I have been able to be involved with and at each stage I have had gained knowledge and experience working alongside great people. This is my second year working for Dexter, as I spent the previous summer working in the Door and Vent division and I have found that the culture and work environment is excellent at all levels. When working with both my coworkers and direct supervisors I feel that I am able to make an impact and that I am treated with respect and an open mind. I know that every day I come to work I will have the opportunity to use my skills to tackle new and interesting projects and see direct results from those efforts. I would highly recommend Dexter as an employer for any student looking for professional experience.

What I wish was different

Advice

Put your best foot forward. I am surrounded by incredibly hard working and talented people who know their stuff. If you are willing to work at their level, you will learn an incredible amount and that work will be recognized. Be eager to try new opportunities and step outside of your own skillset when opportunities are given to you, I guarantee that you will learn new skills and perspectives on your field.

What I liked

The people really care about you and promote a positive work environment. The leadership knows what they are doing, and everyone is on board with their vision for the future. I was able to talk with anybody and they were willing to help me learn what they do and why they do it. I felt included in almost any situation. It's not just a workplace, you have friends here.

Advice

Put effort into the projects you are doing and make sure you are organized because every day is different.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

What I liked

I currently have an engineering internship with Dexter at the Elkhart headquarters, and it has been a terrific experience so far. All the employees have welcomed me with open arms and are never afraid to assist me with anything I'm curious about. There are so many opportunities here to advance whatever skill you desire. Whether it's improving your CAD skills, analyzing test samples in the lab or collecting data from various test units, Dexter has provided me with valuable hands-on experience and networking to further my engineering career.
