Crossroads

Camp Counselor

June - August 2023 • Brewster, MA

What I liked

I loved being able to work with my kiddos and really make connections and make a change. Not only did I help shape and mold the kids but they help shape and mold me.

What I wish was different

Something I wish had been different were the amount of weeks we had with the kids cause we would make connections then they would leave but it’s understandable.

Advice

Prepare to be in the wilderness truthfully was not prepared. All in all I did have a great time so be open to learning and enjoying

Social Work Intern

June - August 2019 • Jerusalem, Jerusalem

What I liked

I loved being able to interact and work with teens who may have been struggling with mental illness, experiencing homelessness, or experiencing any other issues. Working in a country with a completely new culture and language was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences I have ever done. Being able to apply all of my skills that I have learned through my courses at Westfield State in real life situations was beyond exciting!

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to extend my internship to be longer, as I began forming relationships with the teens and then had to leave!

Advice

One piece of advice I would like to share is to definitely seek out any internships that may be in different countries! It was an unreal experience both in and out of the job itself, and has allowed me to learn more about myself and the profession.
