Available Position: Math 1 and 2 Teacher for Middle School Students

 

The Math 1 and Math 2 Teacher for advanced learners, under the direction of the administration, and in collaboration with grade level and other math teachers, will create an effective classroom environment that promotes academic challenge, student learning and personal growth; plan and make instructional decisions based on student needs and learning outcomes; provide experiential, collaborative, and hands-on learning opportunities that are rigorous and engaging for every student; motivate students to become lifelong learners; establish a positive rapport with students by teaching mutual respect and responsibility; promote communication and life skills needed to be successful leaders in our global community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • teaching Math 1 and Math 2 to accelerated middle school students using an interdisciplinary approach whenever possible and appropriate.
  • understanding, teaching and enriching the NC Standard Course of Study curriculum and preparing students to succeed on the Math 1 End of Course (EOC) assessment.
  • developing effective lesson plans and instructional materials. 
  • providing personalized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • using a variety of creative instructional strategies, such as inquiry, data-driven small group lessons, work stations, and project-based learning.
  • infusing social-emotional learning into the daily instructional program. 
  • establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior necessary in achieving a positive and effective learning atmosphere.
  • using both formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate students’ academic growth. 
  • providing targeted re-teaching or extensions for students, as needed. 
  • keeping appropriate/accurate records and preparing progress reports and report cards.
  • communicating with parents through conferences, phone calls, and/or emails to discuss students’ progress
  • serving as an integral member of the MS Math Team to support math pathways and student placement.
  • continually seeking opportunities to grow professionally through in-service education activities.
  • performing other duties as assigned by the administrators.


 

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid teaching license in secondary mathematics
  • Successful experience teaching Math 1 and Math 2; middle school experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study, the Math 1 EOC exam, formative assessment strategies, and evidence based mathematics instructional practices  and programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
