Position: Christian School Upper Elementary Teacher

Responsible for living a life that glorifies God
· Enters into covenant with the ministry and call of the school
· Embraces a Biblical worldview

· Meets everyday stress with God given faith that is demonstrated through emotional stability, objectivity, and joy

· Maintains a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy
· Places the teaching ministry ahead of outside or volunteer work
Responsible for creating a discipleship learning community
· Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner that represents the professional teacher as an ambassador of Jesus Christ
· Conducts an organized and professional classroom that consists of high academic, spiritual, and technological studies that challenge students to be life-long learners and disciples of Jesus Christ
· Develops and implements curriculum that glorifies God and at least meets PA Standards
· Teaches in a manner that reflects a differentiated classroom, recognizing the learning styles, intelligences, motivations, and spiritual needs of students
· Challenges each student to take responsibility for their learning, reaching toward excellence in every area of study and life
· Develops and implements a balanced daily schedule of learning activities that employs a variety of instructional aids, technologies, methods, and materials that will provide a multi-sensory, creative learning environment
· Communicates to students, well-defined objectives for each lesson
· Provides instructional feedback on a regular basis, coaching, counseling, and disciplining students and provides progress reports as required
· Maintains lesson plans via computer, submitting lesson plans for the upcoming week to the principal by 12:00 noon every Friday via email
· Provides a physically, emotionally and spiritually safe classroom environment
· Knows the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature
· Keeps proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises creating a safe environment conducive to learning using Matthew 18 for conflict resolution
· Manages behavior challenges on an individual basis
· Maintains accurate and current records of each student’s academic progress, attendance, and permanent records as required by the school and state
· Prepares adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher
· Complies with standards and rules set in the teacher handbook
· When dealing with issues not expressly detailed in the Academy’s Statement of Faith, the teacher will use caution and discernment in discussing highly debatable topics that tend to divide. A student will be referred to his/her parents and local church in the event a theological topic arises that is causing discord.
Responsible for developing a cooperative partnership with parents
· Provides a learning community which partners with parents, encouraging the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of students
· Encourages parents to volunteer within the classroom environment
· Encourages communication with parents via phone calls, conferences, notes, newsletters and Digital Academy concerning their student’s needs and progress
· Develops learning opportunities for parents to continue the learning process at home
· Attends Parent Connection Meetings and Family Nights
Responsible for providing a learning community that focuses on leadership
· Understands that leadership is a part of the learning process
· Teaches leadership skills and characteristics that educate and equip students to fulfill God’s call on their lives
· Provides opportunities for students to practice leadership skills
· Models the attributes of a leader in and out of the classroom
Responsible for continuing personal and professional development
· Pursues ACSI certification and further education in their academic discipline
· Utilizes evaluation processes for professional growth
· Maintains a teachable attitude
· Annually sets and submits personal and professional goals
· Reads a variety of books to continue spiritual and professional growth
Responsible for creating a teamwork environment among staff and personnel
· Cooperates with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school
· Notifies the administration of any policy he/she is unable to support
· Attends periodic staff meetings and the ACSI conference held in October
· Contributes to the general improvement of the school program
· Contributes in group decision-making and the development of a positive, cooperative working environment that exemplifies the servant hood of Jesus Christ
· Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality in public remarks concerning the school, staff and church
· Performs any other duties which may be requested by the administration including the supervision of extra-curricular activities and outings
· Informs the administration if unable to fulfill any duty assigned
Credentials and Experience
· A born-again Christian
· Attends church regularly and tithes
· A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree
· Pennsylvania State Certification or certification from another state
· Acts #33, 114 and #34 clearances
· Demonstrates initiative and skills in the following areas: relationship and community building, educational leadership, communication, conflict resolution according to Matthew 18, creativity, problem solving, decision-making and time management.
Time Required: Full-time position; 8:00am – 3:30pm; occasional evenings for parent - student programs.
