Summer Performing Arts Internship

Join the Discovery Day Camp community for a summer internship filled with creativity, leadership, and teamwork. Spend your day outside working with kids! We love to partner with you to provide internships, field experience, practicum hours, and skill building opportunities for your future adventures. All of our roles at camp are Monday-Friday and the typical day is from 8:20am-3:20pm, with additional hours available, from June 2-August 8, 2025.

Summary: Discovery Day Camp’s staff are enthusiastic and compassionate individuals who lead campers through a variety of activities on a daily basis outside. Each staff works with a direct supervisor in a team approach to mentoring, problem solving, and goal-setting.  Applicants should have high energy, flexibility, and experience working with children. Additional requirements include the ability to multitask, effectively communicate, and creatively think on your feet.

Performing Arts or Theater Internship opportunities are available in roles that focus on Dance or Musical Theater (program planning and direct instruction), or our Rising Stars Specialty Program (lead campers in all parts of a theater production from the rehearsal process to technical theater to a full stage performance).

Approximately 85 staff and 300 campers join our community for our summer filled with creativity, leadership, and teamwork. Our campers range in ages from 4-14 and every week includes athletics, outdoor adventure, performing and visual arts, special events, swimming, and so much more!

Discovery Day Camp is a family owned, directed, and American Camp Association accredited camp. That means that each summer you join us to work together to provide the highest standards of staff and campers’ health and safety.

Discovery Day Camp is a day camp located in the Vernon Hills, Illinois area with no on-site staff housing. Note: some schools offer internship grants for lodging for the summer.
