Technical Assistant I - Proteomics Core Facility (Relocation Assistance Available!)

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The Whitehead Quantitative Proteomics Core is seeking a Technical Assistant with interest in developing skills and knowledge in the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Under the direction of the lab director Dr. Fabian Schulte, the candidate will be responsible for sample preparation, data collection, maintenance of the mass spectrometers, data analysis, and lab organization.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Preparation of protein samples from a wide range of specimen (e.g. human biofluids, tissues, cell cultures).
  • Global proteome profiling by data-dependent (DDA) and data-independent (DIA) acquisition mass spectrometry.
  • Detection of post-translational modifications (e.g. phosphorylations).
  • Relative quantification of proteins by label-free and stable-isotope labelling strategies (e.g. SILAC, TMT)
  • Structural proteomics (e.g. cross-linking, pull-down experiments).
  • Use of proteomics software (e.g. Proteome Discoverer, Peaks, Fragpipe) for data analysis.
  • Handling, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Orbitrap Exploris 480 and Eclipse mass spectrometers.
  • Assesses experimental results and troubleshoots methods and instruments to optimize research protocols.
  • Collaborates efficiently with technicians, graduate students, post-docs, and PIs under guidance of the director.
  • Maintains organized laboratory notebooks for all experimental procedures and reports results to the director.

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of expertise in basic lab techniques and concepts of molecular biology required.
  • Enthusiasm for learning how to use LC-MS systems (Orbitrap Exploris 480, Orbitrap Eclipse).
  • Strong interest in handling, processing, and analyzing high-throughput datasets.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member while engaging in the organization of the proteomics core.
  • Capability to learn complex tasks with instruction and to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.
  • Motivation to constantly develop skills and expertise.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
