MTCC AmeriCorps VISTA - Montana State University Off-Campus Student Life Coordinator

Montana State University’s (MSU) Office of Student Engagement fosters meaningful engagement opportunities that challenge, support, and empower students to be leaders on campus, in the community, and beyond.

This VISTA project aims to address poverty, housing, food security, and transportation needs among MSU students. The project will seek to build capacity within the new Off-Campus Student Life program, promoting sustainable programming and initiatives. This project will focus on community empowerment by actively engaging residents of low-income communities, specifically students.

Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.

In order to meet the goals set by MSU’s Office of Student Engagement, the VISTA will focus on developing programs that are not only effective in the short term but also sustainable in the long run. This includes the new Off-Campus Student Life program, which aims to create systems and structures that ensure the continuity and consistency of support services like housing assistance and food security for low-income students. The VISTA will also be responsible for establishing and strengthening partnerships with community partners, the City of Bozeman, and MSU’s Student Government (ASMSU). By focusing on these areas, the VISTA will help the new Off-Campus Student Life program not only address immediate needs related to poverty but also lay a strong foundation for continued and effective support in the future.
