Process Engineering Co-Op Opportunity with Viskase Companies Inc.
Viskase operates a viscose chemical extrusion facility in Loudon, Tennessee and is seeking a student to fill a full-time year-long position as co-op in the corporate Process Engineering department. Quick facts below:
- 40 hours a week with possibility of overtime.

- Possibility of business travel to sister facility in Arkansas.
- Seeking student in Engineering or closely related field that has completed at least 2 years of their program.
- Start date in May.
- 12-month commitment.
The Process Engineering co-op is a rotating position – a new person will take over when year is up. The co-op should be able to work with a team, be capable in a laboratory setting, and have organizational skills, in addition to other competencies. The co-op’s duties vary over time, but the following are general duties the co-op can expect:
- Support Engineering activities in the Loudon, TN and Osceola, AR plants.
- Order and track materials as needed for Engineering projects; establish work orders for Engineering activities and track expenditures against those work orders.
- Design and develop drawings for new equipment as required for project support; work with internal maintenance and outside contractors to construct / modify equipment for Engineering projects.
- Work with maintenance, operations, environmental, controls and TA/QC groups, etc. to plan and conduct evaluations in the Loudon and Arkansas plants.
- Plan and conduct evaluations with pilot scale equipment, clean pilot equipment following runs, and recondition the pilot equipment in preparation for future evaluations; conduct laboratory testing of viscose and casing as needed to support development activities; complete special run requests and conduct special runs.
- Assist plant operations in a technical capacity with troubleshooting operational issues.
The co-op is always expected to work safely, in accordance with Viskase policies & procedures and generally recognized best practices.
The co-op should be eager to learn – there is a large learning curve to the chemical & mechanical processes taking place at Viskase.
