Flight Dynamics Intern

Position Description: 

Under the guidance of FDS senior members the intern will support the development of a suite of tools for space situation awareness (SSA), including close approach monitoring, satellite formation flying, real time 3D visualization, maneuver workflow management and …. Specifically, the intern will help with developing new functions to the current tools and perform various testing to validate accuracies. In addition, the intern will also support data trending analysis to enhance the capabilities of our propellant gauging tool as a supplement in estimating remaining onboard propellant.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Support the development and testing of the suite of SSA tools for close approach monitoring and visualization of satellite orbit for formation flying analysis and satellite orientation for special operations. 
  2. Data trending analysis to support the development of propellant gauging tool as an independent estimate of remaining propellant onboard 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Basic programming and scripting language: Python and Perl
  2. Experience in Web programming and GUI/UX design
  3. Good knowledge in Excel and Matlab.
  4. Good analytical skills
  5. Major in computer science, Engineering, Physics, Math or equivalent discipline

 

12 Week Schedule: 

  • Week 1-3:  Orientation and training 
  • Week 4-6: Assigned specific tasks
  • Week 7-10: Completing assigned tasks 
  • Week 10-12: Documentation and final presentation

Minimum Requirements:

  • Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
    • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 24+ credit hours (rising sophomores/juniors/seniors) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university; Part-time or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university
    • May 2024 graduate 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity in the workplace
  • Effective communicator in both written and spoken English
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of MSOffice Suite
  • 3.0 GPA or above preferred

Summer Intern Program Description:

  • Paid internship; 12 weeks starting on Monday, May 27, 2024 through August 16, 2024 
  • Schedule - 40 hours/week, Monday- Friday, 9 – 5 or regular core hours
  • Hybrid environment (minimum 3 days in office location)
