Summary:

The eMedia Aviation Writer creates a high volume of general aviation digital journalism for all AOPA media channels - including online, magazines, video, audio, and social media. The ideal candidate can report and write accurate, engaging stories in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and juggle multiple deadlines, ranging from daily to monthly; easily adapt to a changing media landscape; and produce the right content for the right medium.

Responsibilities:

  • Report on breaking aviation and industry news for online, social media, and print consumption.
  • Create fun, inspirational, and educational content about the people, aircraft, and airports that make general aviation so appealing to members.
  • Deepen our connection with members through outstanding and engaging stories for AOPA’s newsletters and magazines.
  • Reach the next generation of pilots by utilizing the latest media trends and practices, including social media and action cameras.
  • Cover aviation events, remotely or in person, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Major in English or journalism preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of multi-channel media experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on deadline.
  • Ability to learn and work in content management systems.

Preferred Experience

  • Private pilot certificate.
  • Aviation experience, including knowledge about using general aviation aircraft on personal and business missions.
