Virtualization Engineer / Information Technologist I

Position Summary

Virtual Systems is responsible for collaboratively managing and supporting the MSU virtual server infrastructure (VSI) and cloud account offerings. Reporting to the Virtual Systems Manager, the Virtualization Engineer will primarily perform the following duties:

  • Performing independent complex professional support
  • Work with customers to deploy solutions which meet their needs.
  • Client support
  • Systems configuration
  • Deployment
  • Testing
  • Performance optimization
  • Monitoring
  • Maintenance
  • Migration

This position requires strong organization, customer support, problem solving and technical skills.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in IT Support or Systems Administration; experience with VMware and associated tools; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi or other similar virtualization solutions.

• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP clouds/offerings.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and cross-departmental teams.

• Detail oriented, self-motivated, strong organization and critical thinking skills.

• Experience understand student, staff, faculty, and business needs.

• Experience with hyper-converged storage or other comparable technology.
