Start a Meaningful Public Safety Career

Have you dreamed of starting a career in public safety? Apply today to be a Glencoe Public Safety Officer – no certifications or prior experience needed!

Glencoe Public Safety Officers are different from traditional police officers or firefighters – all officers are certified police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians, which prepares them to provide higher levels of service and care to the community. It’s a career that offers genuine meaning and versatility like no other!

When you become a Glencoe Public Safety Officer, you will become cross-trained to perform all three functions– and sometimes all in one day, because you'll be trained, equipped and ready to serve any aspect of public safety. You'll be among the most highly-trained public safety professionals in the country - Glencoe is one of just two communities in Illinois that have adopted the cross-trained public safety model.

You'll be a community caretaker and protector, having the opportunity to get to know residents and businesses in a community that respects, appreciates and holds the Public Safety Department in very high regard. You’ll be able to get to know your coworkers and won’t be just a number – we operate all Public Safety operations from one station.

We’re looking for people who are dedicated to customer service, teamwork, building relationships and trust in the community, and who will exercise sound judgment, professional ethics and integrity. If that’s you, apply today!

The Glencoe Difference

The community you serve, the pay, the benefits, the schedule – they all matter. As someone applying to police officer and firefighter jobs, you know that already. Here’s what sets Glencoe apart:

  • We have great pay and benefits, among the highest in our region. The starting pay for entry-level officers is $81,715, no certifications required!
  • We value time off to recharge and to take care of the people you love. Your wellbeing matters and we prioritize taking care of the people who take care of the community – besides generous paid time off, Glencoe provides six weeks of paid Family Care Leave (currently as part of a pilot program, after one year of employment).
  • You won't be stuck on midnights all the time. Your schedule can change every three months and we intentionally schedule all officers between days and nights – it helps with learning and getting to know the community. The police shift works 12-hour shifts and the fire/EMS shift works 24 hour shifts.
  • You won't believe how many specialization opportunities there are. Our officers can work as paramedics, detectives, field training officers, juvenile officers or older adult services officers in the department, besides serving on police and fire regional task forces and special teams.
  • The community appreciates and respects the Public Safety Department.  The residents of Glencoe embrace their Public Safety Department like no other community in Illinois. How do we know? The most recent 2023 community survey showed that 95%+ of residents are satisfied or highly satisfied with police, fire and EMS services. However, it’s not just a survey that tells us how much the community loves the Department: our Officers experience appreciation every day with visits to the station from residents who come in just to say hi, through personal invitations to events like block parties, and through deliveries of the occasional holiday treat or pizza. Things like that remind us every day that we’re fortunate to have a great relationship with the community, and it drives us to keep it that way!
  • We value you for who you are, what you add to our team and we want you to be YOU at work. We want every member of our team to be their authentic self at work. The Village's team is diverse and inclusive, where each person belongs and contributes.
