Faculty Position in Cancer Research Focused on Indigenous Populations

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, in the Division of Public Health Sciences or in the Division of Clinical Research.

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) is recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the Public Health Sciences or Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch whose work is focused on cancer research in Indigenous, American Indian, and/or Alaska Native populations. Areas of research could include but are not limited to primary prevention, cancer screening and early detection, etiology, survivorship, social determinants of health, behavioral science, epidemiology, dissemination and implementation science, observational studies, development and testing of interventions, and clinical trials on one or more cancers relevant to Indigenous populations.

Indigenous communities are one of our primary priority populations given the persistent cancer disparities Indigenous people continue to experience. Through this faculty recruitment we seek to enhance our capacity to conduct impactful cancer research in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Candidates should have experience conducting research in partnership with Indigenous communities using community-based participatory research approaches. The successful candidate will establish an independent research program within Fred Hutch’s collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. There is an opportunity to collaborate with the newly developed Indigenous Cancer Health Equity Initiative (ICHE-i), which integrates Indigenous relationality, sustainability, and holistic approaches as core values to engage and support the institution’s capacity to cultivate Tribal-Academic-Research partnerships, center Tribal Sovereignty, and increase Indigenous patient advocacy for cancer health equity among tribes and Urban Indian Organizations in WA.

Applicants must have a MD and/or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a research area relevant to their research program that may be in one or more of the following areas: anthropology, behavioral science, cancer disparities, clinical care, clinical research, communication, decision sciences, dissemination and implementation science, epidemiology, health economics, health services, health policy, precision oncology, psychology, translational research, or other related fields.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $165,000 to $393,196 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank, from $185,059 to $420,547 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank, and from $207,555 to $472,040 for faculty hired at the Full Professor rank. Pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Pay for Faculty positions is based on a variety of factors, including degree, specialty, clinical practice and experience. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus.
