The Industrial Hygiene (IH) intern will be assigned projects and tasks to support the industrial hygiene program in plants and lab operations within The Heritage Group. Interns will interact with other professionals such as: engineering, plants, safety, and R&D, including senior management. You will get the opportunity to work with highly capable leaders who have developed the ability to provide valuable coaching and feedback.

The intern will support THG's goal of providing employees, visitors, and contractors a safe and healthy work environment by looking beyond compliance and ensuring best work practices and standards are met. Projects for this position will be led by a senior level Industrial Hygienist, but much of the work will be executed by the IH Intern.

Timeline:
Paid Summer Internship: May 13th - August 2nd

  • Intern pay is non-negotiable and is calculated based on current academic class standing $17/hour (Freshman) - $20/hour (Senior), etc.

Location: In-Person Internship
Heritage Research Group - The Center 6320 Intech Way, Indianapolis, IN, 46278

  • Potential travel in the Midwest, all travel will be done with the Hiring Manager

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-field sampling and assessments
  • Perform sample preparations and analysis
  • Projects vary each year and may include:
    • Asphalt fume assessment at manufacturing plants
    • Local Exhaust Ventilation surveys to verify effectiveness of systems
    • Respiratory protection
    • Creation of Occupational Health Plan
    • Conduct, support, and/or verify Qualitative Exposure Assessments which could include, but are not limited to, noise, ergonomics, PPE selection, and chemical exposure assessments.
  • Document and present project progress and accomplishments

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates may be enrolled in a bachelor degree (between Junior and Senior year) or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related degree.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory environment is desired.
