Global Environmental Health and Safety Intern - Spring 2024

About the role:

In this role, the Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist – Intern will support O-I’s cultural transformation. This position is responsible for problem resolution, training, compliance, inspections, and other EHS tasks. A broad range of EHS program management skills will be introduced to provide a hands-on approach with the goal of supporting the development of future EHS professionals. The intern will have EHS responsibilities throughout the Global Organization and Corporate Campus including employees working remotely throughout North America. We are seeking an intern who can work during the spring 2024 semester.

During the internship, you’ll:

  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of training programs for OSHA, SW / SPCC, DOT and, RCRA as directed.
  • Manage EHS records per the O-I Records Management Policy.
  • Partner with key lines of business to support operational adoption of the EHS program into the business functions. Identify opportunities with designated lines of business to reduce injuries and promote a safe work environment.
  • Support the Global Organization and Corporate Campus on questions and need for information and assistance through accurate and timely feedback and problem resolution.
  • Assist in collaboration on training and awareness programs for new implementation of EHS compliance systems. Provide ongoing support and evaluation as to the effectiveness of training and awareness efforts.
  • Assist on implementation of a new EHS management system, which will include the written programs, audits, and procedures for multiple buildings.

 The Global EHS Specialist – Intern should have:

  • Natural curiosity and eagerness to learn and implement processes and procedures
  • High level of motivation and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to interact with all levels of the organization including management
  • Flexible and organized work style to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to adapt in fast-changing environment
  • Previous experience with EHS preferred

About you:

  • You're actively enrolled in an accredited college and/or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Environmental, Health, and Safety or related technical field.
  • Preferred qualification: individuals working on a master’s degree with a focus on EHS or related technical field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis (O-I does not sponsor working visas for internships or co-ops).
