IT Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer's primary responsibility is to align technology vision with business strategy by integrating company processes with the appropriate technologies. The Chief Information Officer is also responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing technology initiatives within the organization.

Examples of Duties

Management

  • Directs multiple projects through subordinate IT managers.
  • Directs development and approves implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates performance.
  • Directs and monitors training activities.

Operational Management

  • Ensures resources and organizational structure are operating effectively.
  • Directs the integration of technology solutions across multiple units.
  • Directs, develops, and presents to management various analyses and solutions.
  • Develops and manages current and future budget plans for the areas managed, including prioritizing expenditures.
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors for IT equipment and services.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of current industry trends, products, and services in information systems, processing equipment, and software.
    • Typically gained by a masters degree or higher in a related field OR a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least one year of relevant work experience in a related field OR at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Experience managing a professional information technology staff through subordinate supervisors;
    • Typically gained by at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Experience developing and controlling an operating budget;
    • Typically gained by at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Experience developing and implementing IT policies and procedures;
    • Typically gained by at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Experience advising top-level management regarding major IT matters;
    • Typically gained by at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Experience developing short-and long-range plans and assessing training needs.
    • Typically gained by at least four years of relevant work experience in a related field.
