Summer 2024 Intern - Investment Solutions, Derivatives

Position Overview

Internship Overview

Internships give RGA Investments an opportunity to identify candidates to meet the future needs of our growing department while giving our interns valuable experience to jump start successful careers. As a Derivatives intern, you will work together with portfolio managers in Investment Solutions team to design and implement derivative strategies for hedging, replication, and income generation purposes within block reinsurance transaction. Assist in the development, monitoring and execution of RGA's derivative strategy across all asset classes and product types. This internship will test your mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills and will provide experience with numerous cutting-edge tools such as BlackRock’s Aladdin, Bloomberg, Python, Python QuantLib, SQL and OpenLink/FINDUR.

 

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, and implement models and tools under the guidance of experienced teammates, leveraging your skillsets and knowledge to add value to RGA
  • Build automated processes to improve the efficiency of recurring tasks
  • Use proprietary and third-party systems to support RGA’s innovative culture, to retrieve data and perform derivative valuation and risk analysis
  • Configure risk-scenario simulations and related reporting under the guidance of experienced teammates
  • Work on other cross-functional projects as time permits

 

Requirements

  •  
    • Must be enrolled as a full-time college student at the Junior, Senior or Graduate level pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science (or similar computer programming designation), or related degree program at an accredited university
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required
    • Ability to work well in an environment with multiple concurrent projects, managing project-based workflow within demanding time frames and adapting quickly to new methods
    • The most successful interns are creative self-starters who adapt well to change
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills are necessary
    • Technology savvy, programming and process improvement/automation skills
    • Advanced skills in the following applications and/or programming languages are a plus:
      • MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
      • Python, SQL, Java, C++, R, VBA
