Youth Programs Intern - Fall 2022

The Youth Programs Intern will assist with the development and implementation of the Museum Apprentice Program (MAP), a hands-on project based volunteer program for teenagers 13-18 years old. The intern will also assist with the development and/or implementation of programs and materials for the museum’s after-school program. The intern will work closely with the Public Events and Youth Programs Coordinator and Youth Programs Instructor to develop and provide museum learning experiences, teambuilding exercise, and career exploration opportunities for youth programs participants.

The intern will assist with:

  • Developing and facilitating lessons and activities for students enrolled in youth programs.
  • Assisting with the development of MAP curriculum and projects surrounding the themes of storytelling and youth advocacy.
  • Assisting program instructors with implementing daily lessons, projects, museum visits, library visits, and day-to-day operations for the museum’s on-site afterschool program for grades 3-5. The program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Creating a digital database and interviewing youth programs alumni.
  • Assisting staff in the continued evaluation of the programs by observing, implementing program changes, and submitting a summative evaluation report.

Requirements 
  • Have completed at least one year of college and be enrolled in an accredited college/university 
  • Have experience working with youth.
  • Have an academic background in nonprofit management, humanities, history, social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, sociology, social work, child development, or a related field.
  • Have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Have excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Have the ability to multi-task
  • Be available Saturdays and some evenings to help facilitate meetings and programs.
  • Be available for the after school program hours – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6:30 p.m.
  • Be available to work a 12-20 hours per week.
