Building Envelope Consultants, Ltd. (BEC) is a group of Professional Engineers, Architects, and Building Science Professionals who specialize in the design, inspection and testing of all elements of the “Building Envelope”. BEC is the complete property inspection and design team. BEC provides unbiased and expert inspection and remedial building design services for roofs, walls, foundations and their component parts. Utilizing forensic and investigative approaches, our team provides expert analysis throughout a diverse commercial, industrial and residential clientele across the Midwest.

About the Position
Building Envelope Consultants, Ltd. (BEC) is seeking a fearless individual with excellent communication skills and an investigative nature to manage the full cycle of roof inspection projects. This individual will call all necessary parties, schedule and perform inspections, and develop clearly written reports that summarize all vital information and provide recommendations where appropriate.

A successful candidate for this position will be a self-motivated individual who is comfortable with heights, tight spaces, exposure to materials, cold and hot weather, steep slope roofs, and roofs of all shapes and sizes. They will possess exemplary project management skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and will be interested in the integrity and construction of roofs and building envelope components. Being a part of an expanding company, the ability to be versatile and accept some responsibility beyond the job description should be expected.

Training will be provided for any qualified candidate willing to learn, but an ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of roofing systems materials for commercial, industrial and residential structures with awareness of industry standards and codes. They will need a valid driver’s license and will be required to travel as needed - sometimes overnight.


Inspection Project Manager Responsibilities:
  •  Manage roof and property inspection projects.
  •  Perform fieldwork to inspect, assess and document the condition of roofs and relevant building envelope components.
  •  Climb and walk steep and low-slope roofs.
  •  Monitor and observe roof construction and installation of roofing systems to ensure work is performed properly with the correct specifications. (Specific to licensed RRO)
  •  Coordinate project files for efficient project management.
  •  Contact insurance companies, property managers, homeowners, adjusters, and anyone relevant to a project.
  • Schedule inspections with all necessary parties.
  •  Plan travel routes ahead of time.
  •  Travel to projects whenever required.
  •  Set up and climb ladders to access roofs and structures.
  •  Conduct inspections using provided survey instruments, tape measures or test equipment.
  •  Take pictures and notes on roof and structure inspections.
  •  Measure and verify dimensions of roofs and structures.
  •  Maintain and keep important inspection records and photographs.
  •  Resolve onsite conflicts with insurance adjusters or property owners.
  •  Evaluate project details and observations to determine condition of property and identify any problems or sources of the problem.
  •  Decide appropriate recommendations unique to each situation.
  •  Write and deliver reports summarizing all project details, evidence, professional conclusions, and recommendations.
  •  Provide expert testimony for deposition or arbitration proceedings when appropriate.

Requirements
  •  Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  •  Valid driver’s license.
  •  An adventurous mindset with a high level of comfort with heights, walking steep slope roofs, and climbing ladders.
  •  Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes overnight.
  •  Dependable, organized and detail oriented.
  •  Clear and concise English writing ability.
  •  Confident, articulate, and professional speaking ability.
  •  Willingness to learn and develop as needed.

Desired
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of installation methods and materials for the following:
  1. Low-slope roof coverings including built-up membrane (BUR), metal panels, polymer-modified bitumen sheet membranes, thermoplastic and thermoset single-ply membranes, and spray polyurethane foam.
  2.  Steep-slope roof coverings including asphalt shingles, clay and concrete tile, metal panel, slate, wood shakes and shingles, and synthetic roof coverings.
