Departmental Technician 7-E9

The Offer in Compromise (OIC) program was established under Public Act 240 of 2014 and amended the Michigan Revenue Act. An OIC is a request by a taxpayer for Treasury to compromise an assessed tax liability for less than the full amount. This position performs a variety of technical assistant functions in support of the Offer in Compromise Section. The position monitors and organizes all incoming and existing OIC requests submitted by individual and business taxpayers; receives, reviews, and responds to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders; and prepares documentation utilized in the decision-making process for OICs appealed for Independent Administrative Review. This position is also responsible for creating and compiling reports and analyzing statistical data associated with all components of the OIC program.


Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a high school diploma or a GED Certificate.
 
ExperienceDepartmental Technician 7
One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
 
Departmental Technician 8
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
 
OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
Departmental Technician E9
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
 
OR
 
One year of experience performing advanced secretarial or supervisory administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
 
Departmental Technician 10
Three years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced level in state service.
 
OR
 
Two years of experience performing advanced secretarial or supervisory administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
 
Alternate Education and Experience
Departmental Technician 7
Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement. 
Departmental Technician 8
Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
 
Departmental Technician E9
Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, however selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. 
Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
This position has a FTINPRINT sub-class code. The sub-class code indicates the position has access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and requires passing of a fingerprint-based background check per IRS Publication 1075.
The Michigan Department of Treasury participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
Interviews will likely occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
