DT-1873 eMobility Engineer – High Voltage Powernet (L7) (Open)

In this position, you will support the eMobility Group as the High Voltage (HV) Powernet Engineer. This is an emerging, exciting technology, and the right person will drive DTNA’s success by helping our engineering department, customers and network adopt the new vehicles into their operations. This person will be responsible for developing the high level HV powernet architecture on the vehicle, ensuring cohesiveness in all high voltage systems on the vehicle. They will also define component specifications of HV components on the vehicle, and ensure the HV/LV systems are balanced to meet the needs of all systems.


Responsibilities:

  • Support companywide development and launch of electric mobility at Daimler Trucks.
  • Develop high voltage architecture of DTNA electrical vehicles, collaborating with all HV component owners to ensure top performance and reliability of the high voltage systems.
  • Participate in global collaboration to commonize high voltage architectures across different business units MBT, Fuso, and DTNA. Ensure DTNA requirements and performance is met by a global HV system.
  • Define detailed specifications and requirements of high voltage components on the vehicle. This includes DC/ DC converters, HV power distribution, HV fusing and safety, and interfaces to LV systems.
  • Create and release documentation on HV powernet architecture on the vehicle, factoring in variables in HV systems and making it scalable for future needs.
  • Define requirements for HV cables. Ensure cables sizing meets the needs of the vehicle based on voltage drop, ampacity, and efficiency. Develop specifications on cable termination and connectors.
  • Develop grounding requirements for electric vehicles for all HV systems, including equipotential ground and distribution.
  • Define vehicle-level requirements and performance of the HV system on the vehicle overall, including test requirements and vehicle specifications.
  • Support production project timing to rollout electric test trucks according to project timing.
  • Working with vendors and other external resources to develop HV components.
  • Provide engineering support to vehicle production team to resolve manufacturing process issues related to HV systems.
  • Stay current on electric vehicle technology developments. Generate new ideas and methods for optimizing vehicle design, systems, and processes.
  • Broaden your expertise outside of your immediate responsibilities and become an expert in eMobility topics.

Basic Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college in Engineering with focus on Electrical, Power systems, or related Engineering field
  • Understanding of HV components such as DC/DC converters, battery chargers, HV 3-phase motors, power distribution, grounding, and analog circuit design.
  • Must be well organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of DTNA management.
  • Customer orientated with a real sense for the marketplace.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and, oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change.

Basic Preferred Skills & Experience
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Strong technical proficiency on DTNA products with a focus on power systems.
  • Past experience on electric vehicles and high voltage DC automotive systems.
  • Experience with DFMEA and Functional Safety analysis for automotive electronics products.
  • Languages: English (fluent); German (Intermediate) preferred; additional language(s) appreciated.

  • @hybrid: Number of days at home and at the office will be determined through an ongoing conversation with your Manager. DTNA will ensure that your WFH set-up meets wi-fi / data minimum requirements and sets you up for success. Travel to the office is not reimbursed and employee must live close enough to attend regular in-person collaborative meeting with at least 24-hour notice.
