Job Overview
Under the close mentorship of their assigned laboratory supervisor, Laboratory Summer Intern will assist the laboratory with basic laboratory tasks while furthering their knowledge in the operation of the molecular diagnostic laboratory. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in molecular biology techniques. In addition, research experience performed independently, in either an academic or industry setting, is also highly desirable.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the R&D team with the development of sophisticated clinical molecular tests
  • Tests will include experimental design, data collection, independent problem solving, and data analysis
  • Development activities will also require documentation, requiring excellent technical communication and writing skills
  • Performs other administrative and general laboratory duties as assigned after appropriate training is completed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Currently enrolled in molecular biology, genetics or related life sciences undergraduate degree.
  • Excellent time management, scheduling, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively under tight timelines and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member
  • Ability to sense the importance or impact of issues and situations and take appropriate actions
  • Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated
  • Must have the flexibility to work extra hours to meet corporate and departmental goals
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

REQUIRED DURATION/HOURS

  • The Laboratory Summer Intern position is on-site only
  • Must be available for a minimum duration of 8 weeks, and 8 hours per day

Myriad Neuroscience, a business unit of Myriad Genetics, specializes in pharmacogenomic testing. The GeneSight® Psychotropic test, developed in the Myriad Neuroscience clinical laboratory, analyzes clinically important genetic variations that may impact how a patient metabolizes and responds to certain psychiatric medications. The results of the test provides clinicians with information about which medications may require dose adjustments, may be less likely to work, or may have an increased risk of side effects based on patient’s genetic makeup.
