The Dietary Technician plans and directs nutritional care for residents in conjunction with physicians’ orders and residents’ food habits and preferences. Works closely with Dietician and all other care-related departments and Directors.
 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 
  • Assumes leadership responsibility, either personally or through delegation, for integration and coordination of the intradepartmental services to meet the institution’s primary functions.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of goals/objectives and policies/procedures that guide and support the department’s services.
  • Provides continuous assessment and improvement of the performance of care and services provided (CQI).
  • Under the direction of a Dietician, oversees initiation and maintenance of quality control measures, adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the education and training of employees.
  • Completes nutrition assessments on residents.
  • Participates in care conferences for residents.
  • Makes recommendations regarding nutrition care as appropriate.
  • Routinely visits residents to check tolerances. Orders snacks/nutritional supplements as appropriate.
  • Calculates and charts calorie count data when necessary.
  • Oversees and monitors quality control practices.
  • Maintains professional competency and growth needed for job-related services.
  • Works with Director to develop and carry out processes as needed.
  • Communicates problems and opportunities in a timely manner.
  • Continually monitors service quality.
  • Interacts with residents on food committees and other processes.
  • Performs other general routine and non-routine duties as assigned.
 


Minimum Job Requirements

 
Education: Minimum of Associate Degree in a recognized Dietetic Technician program.
Licenses or other required certifications: HACCP training preferred.
Experience:  A minimum of 3 years related supervisory experience in a continuing care retirement community, hospital, or similar facility.
Specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities: Must be able to reason and problem solve, must be able to make decisions under stressful conditions. Must be able to effectively communicate with staff. Must be computer literate.
