Associate Laboratory Technician Co-Op/Intern-Spring 2022

About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]
 
The Associate Laboratory Technician Intern position performs bench analyses, basic laboratory maintenance tasks and, with direction, some complex technical assignments in the Laboratory Chemistry area. Some of the data may be the subject of audits and surveillances. Work includes, but is not limited to, the items listed under Job Responsibilities.
 
Reports to a Supervisor as assigned.
 
Job Responsibilities
 
  1. Maintain and enhance a safe working environment, including laboratory safety practices, while achieving targeted production with high quality results.
 
  1. Maintain and enhance customer satisfaction through knowledge and implementation of the Laboratory Quality Plan.
 
  1. Interact with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and other lab software applications, for sample receipt, data entry, schedule management and trend review.
 
  1. Complete Training, Qualification, and achieve proficiency in assigned field or analytical areas.
  • Operation of common laboratory equipment (balance, pipette, titrators).
  • Performance of calibration checks on laboratory instruments prior to use.
  • Perform routine analytical procedures operating analytical instruments (e.g. pH, Karl Fisher Moisture, Oil & Grease, Solids, etc.).
  • Performs maintenance/procedures associated with the area of assignment
  • Successfully analyzes proficiency samples in areas of qualification.
 
  1. Assist with the work of higher classification and perform similar and less skilled work as assigned.
 
Job Qualifications
 
  • Must meet the Company’s general qualifications for employment
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, majoring in Chemistry or related Science
  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Must have ability for solving technical problems.
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Should have initiative, creativity, dependability, good judgment and a good work ethic.
  • Exhibits accountability, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
