Assistant/Associate/Professor of Mathematics

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, is seeking a passionate Math educator who inspires students and is ready to be inspired by our Corps of Cadets. 

Salary: $70,422 to $128,066 for a ten-month academic year

The future member of the Math Department will teach general mathematics courses, including foundation for calculus (precalculus), single and multivariable calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, as well as courses which support the Operations Research and Computer Analysis major, including linear and non-linear optimization, computer modeling languages, information systems, probability theory, mathematical statistics, regression, probabilistic modeling, machine and statistical learning, and simulation. In addition to teaching courses, the member will oversee senior capstone projects and other interdisciplinary projects that 2 solve real-world Coast Guard-related problems, mentor undergraduate advisees, contribute to both departmental and institutional service, and engage in professional development and scholarship. Our new member will model the Coast Guard’s Core Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty and will foster an inclusive and equity minded culture and climate.

Minimum degree requirements: Earned doctorate or completion of an earned doctorate by July 31, 2022 in statistics, operations research, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field.

Minimum specialized experience: Demonstration of teaching experience, or experience as a teaching assistant, at the post-secondary level in statistics, operations research, mathematics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science.

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the following qualifications will be considered favorably:  demonstrated commitment to strong undergraduate teaching;  experience teaching statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science;  excellent interpersonal and communication skills;  experience teaching and mentoring diverse student populations;  demonstrated efforts at creating communities of inclusion.
