Latin America Healthcare Research Analyst

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

As we plan for continued growth, we are seeking a Latin America Healthcare Research Analyst to support our LATAM healthcare research practice by helping to construct insights regarding the business implications of economic and policy developments in the region for multinational healthcare companies. The analyst will be required to remain abreast of major developments in country-level healthcare policy impacting public and private healthcare expenditure, reimbursement, local formularies, and healthcare system design (among other policy measures that impact the delivery of healthcare services to covered populations).

While the ideal candidate will have professional or academic experience related to international healthcare systems, we will consider individuals that solely have experience with Latin America’s political and economic systems and a strong desire to learn about local healthcare dynamics. Individuals with no healthcare expertise, but solid understanding of LATAM markets and economics are strongly encouraged to apply.

The analyst will have the opportunity to gain exposure to senior executives at leading multinationals with investments across LATAM, develop a deep understanding of the challenges facing local healthcare systems, and build strong views on the major barriers to delivering high quality and effective healthcare products and services. The work will provide unique exposure to the intersection between politics, economics, business, and industry analysis. This is a unique opportunity with significant responsibility and freedom to help shape our LATAM healthcare practice and to work on innovative content for a very senior executive audience. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about healthcare, independent, curious, and willing to try new things and to be on a rapid learning curve while being coached through on-the-job training.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Tracking and analyzing ongoing changes to healthcare policy in LATAM, including:
  • Changes to local formularies
  • Changes to reimbursement design
  • Changes to healthcare financing
  • Changes to effective insurance coverage
  • Changes to drug and medical device approval processes
  • Proposals and changes to policies and regulation impacting patient access within certain therapy areas (e.g., oncology, rare diseases, cardiology)
  • Other developments impacting local regulators, payers, providers, and patients
  • Writing research deliverables that allow for quick and effective communication of healthcare systems’ financial flows and stakeholder incentives
  • Driving the development of forward-looking views on healthcare policy in LATAM
  • Delivering research presentations to senior executive clients in person and over the phone
  • Collaborating with members of our global macroeconomic research practice on linking their analysis to the healthcare team’s analysis on healthcare trends in LATAM

Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree from a top-tier academic institution is required. A major in economics, public health, business, international relations, or regional studies relevant to LATAM is expected
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LATAM markets through academic and/or professional research experience. An understanding of the current socio-political and economic environment is particularly key
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or interest in international healthcare systems through academic and/or professional research experience. Candidates with no experience in healthcare, but a genuine desire to learn more about the sector are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Excellent communication skills in English (writing specifically) are required
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Basic understanding of macroeconomics
  • Demonstrated research experience (in academic or professional setting) including hypothesis-testing, structuring complex research projects, primary and secondary research, and other research techniques
  • Experience in managing multiple projects, working on tight deadlines, and working relatively independently
  • Demonstrated ability to cover a variety of topics and issues, including completely new topics
  • Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred, but not required
  • Experience with identifying, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative information
  • Personal experience in LATAM, including traveling, studying, or working in key markets in the region
  • Knowledge of LATAM healthcare systems structure, financing, and major challenges
  • Work, volunteer, or internship experience in a healthcare organization in LATAM
