Part-time Grounds/Maintenance Worker

Position Title:                            Student Grounds Worker

Hourly Wage:                             $13/hr
Average Hours/week:             15-25
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Assist the existing CFS grounds maintenance staff in various grounds-related tasks throughout campus. Outdoor tasks may include, but are not limited to, picking up trash/litter, weeding, leaf removal, re-setting outdoor furniture, assist planting various shrubs/trees/flowers, watering flower/plant beds and filling tree water bags, spreading salt on sidewalks during winter, shoveling snow at entrances, and various other grounds-related tasks. 
§ Assist the existing CFS maintenance staff in various building maintenance tasks throughout campus. Indoor tasks may occur when weather prohibits outdoor work which may include, but are not limited to, painting, moving maintenance supplies, cleaning docks and mechanical spaces, assisting maintenance personnel on various projects, and other various types of work. 
§ Assist with other projects and initiatives as needed. 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
§ Must be a full or part-time student actively enrolled in a course of study on the IUPUI campus.
§ Must be willing to work in an outdoor or indoor environment which may include excessive heat, excessive cold, and various types of outdoor weather. 
§ Must show a desire and ability to perform physical labor of varying types in support of the grounds and maintenance work involved with this position.
§ Must be able to set a schedule of work based on existing school schedule and adhere to the schedule for each semester/break timeframe. General available hours will be Monday thru Friday between 5:30 am and 7 pm depending on season. 
§ Attendance will be monitored and enforced once a schedule is determined that works for both the student employee and the hiring department. 
§ Must wear department-provided uniforms and safety equipment as required for each task.
§ Must successfully complete any required safety, technical, and/or other training.
 
Other Mental & Physical Requirements:
§ Ability to lift/carry minimum of 25 lbs multiple time per shift, but not more than 50 lbs. Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing. Spends most time outdoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
