Office Assistant - JAAR

This position will provide administrative support for the editor, Andrea Jain, and the rest of the editorial team of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, housed in the Department of Religious Studies in the School of Liberal Arts. This is a frontline office position, requiring regular correspondence with members of the editorial team. Given that, communication skills are necessary. The primary duties involve assisting the editor and other members of the editorial team with various tasks such as copying, scanning, updating spreadsheets, collating materials, as well as receiving, organizing, and mailing books. Office equipment used in this position may include: computers, copiers, and scanners. Training will be provided.
-Assist in clerical tasks i.e. word processing, electronically filing, duplicating, scanning, and mail pick up, organization, and sending (70%)
-Keep office space clean and safe (5%)
-Create and maintain spreadsheets (10%)
-Inventory books (10%)
A student Staff Office Assistant will learn communication skills primarily through in-person and email correspondence, but also by occasional telephone calls. They will do a bit of problem solving as issues come to them from the editor and other members of the editorial team. They will contact their supervisor for problems they do not know how to handle.  
Qualifications
Experience using Microsoft office (word, PowerPoint and excel); Ability to manage multiple responsibilities/tasks (instead of multi-task); manage their time and organize their responsibilities. Some light lifting will be involved.
