IUPUI University Library (UL) Events and Multimedia Specialists (EMS)

Position Type: Applicants must be eligible Federal Work Study IUPUI Students.
Position Summary
University Library Events and Multimedia Specialist (EMS) provide IUPUI affiliates with skilled assistance in the use of UL's 3D printing and scanning service as well as event planning and coordination. Event Multimedia Specialist report to full time CST staff and collaborate on the development and delivery of multimedia and event services. Additional responsibilities include assisting students/faculty/staff with multimedia projects which incorporate video and audio editing, photo and graphics editing, and Adobe Creative Suite applications.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THIS ROLE
1. Communicator – Students will learn the ability to present information in an understandable manner, even when dealing with a complex situation. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by aiding patrons in a positive, helpful manner and by addressing patrons' needs courteously, professionally, and efficiently using available resources and proper referrals.
2. Problem Solver – Students will work together in a team-based environment learning from professionals & cohorts in other departments, cooperating with others, and readily volunteering to aid others. Students will gain diagnostic skills through working together to plan and organize workload to efficiently carry out both individual and group tasks as well as handle changes that arise in workload or priorities.
3. Innovator – Students will gain working experience with emerging 3D printing technologies and their use in the academic environment. Students will also gain experience in supplying training and instruction on 3D modeling and multi-media applications. In addition, this position teaches students how to work with a diverse client population using excellent customer service & professionalism.
4. Community Contributor – Students working with University Library officials and others in the community create and support a working environment that embraces diversity among student employees, IU Affiliates, and the general population at large. This position will provide students with skills to service all users with an understanding that such actions contribute to an inclusive library experience for all patrons. 
 
 
Essential Functions (% time spent)
Under the supervision of CST Management
§ Work directly with campus officials and staff via e-mail, phone, in-person, and web requests to coordinate all events, meetings, and classes held within the University Library. (35%)
§ Work with students/faculty/staff on 3D printing & scanning projects, including 3D design modeling assistance to ensure compatibility with 3D printers. (35%)
§ Monitor and provide tech support assistance via an online chat system for UL’s public area computers (10%)
§ Maintain classrooms by conducting regular walk-throughs to inspect and report/repair damaged equipment/furniture/amenities. (%5)
§ Attend regular meetings to plan and implement new services (5%)
§ Provide multimedia project assistance to student/faculty/staff patrons using all available media applications. (5%)
§ Other projects as assigned (5%)

Skills Preferred
 
§ Proficiency in 3D modeling applications such as Maya, Sketchup, Photoshop, or other industry-standard 3D design/development programs.
§ Proven experience with 3D printers and scanners, including printer capabilities, material use, handling, and basic maintenance. 
§ Proficiency in multimedia applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier, and other Adobe CS products is highly desirable.
 

Work Hours
 
§ UL Events and Multimedia Specialists are assigned shifts at the beginning of the semester and retain these shifts for the entire semester.
§ Employment is on a semester-by-semester basis
§ Hours vary when classes are not in session and during summer session.
§ 12 to 28 hours per week.
