CEA Program: Community Engagement Associate: English for Academic Purposes

This specific position is part of the Community Engagement Associates program in which students work in a specific department on campus to support campus and community engagement initiatives. Overview of department:
The English for Academic Purposes Program supports the academic English language needs of international students.

Project summary:
The CEA for the EAP program will be assisting with the service learning aspects of the ENG G111 courses. In this course, international students read about a variety of cultural/social topics and perform service related to that topic to build closer connections with their new community.

Specific tasks that the community engagement associate will complete: 
Tasks include: -assisting instructor of course with generating ideas for topics/materials/etc. -communicating and organizing with possible partner representatives. -updating materials from past semesters. -locating possible reading texts for the course. -communicating with students as they plan and complete their chosen service activity.

Specific qualifications (knowledge, skills, class standing, etc) we desire the project coordinator to have:
Desired qualifications:

  • Completed coursework in TESOL, Linguistics, or related English program
  • Future career interest in teaching English as a Second Language
  • Highly motivated; follows through with work
