CEA Program: Community Engagement Associate for the Kinesiology Internship Program

Overview of department:
Kinesiology Department Internship Program hosts and oversees students doing both their internal and external internships.

Project summary:
CEA will administratively assist the Internship Director with record keeping, informing students on proper application procedures and new this year assisting with the development of a procedure to asses civic-minded engagement by all interns.

Specific tasks that the community engagement associate will complete: 
Duties of the position typically include the following:

Administratively:
  • Assist the Director with record keeping of numerous files the interns turn in to the Director/working with potential interns in answering procedural questions/completing assessment charts for the school at the end of a semester.
Civic-minded engagement:
  • Work with the Director to develop a procedure to validate the effect/impact the interns are having on the communities where they are interning.

Specific qualifications (knowledge, skills, class standing, etc) we desire the project coordinator to have:
Sophomore or junior with a major in exercise science or fitness management & personal training who has some knowledge of the Internship Program. Computer skills, esp. in Excel.

Learning objectives:
By the end of this position assignment, the student will meet the following learning objectives
  1. The CEA is able to name at least one civic issue and articulate how various societal systems and processes address this (and other) civic issues.
  2. The CEA values collaborating with others, especially those individuals representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints.
  3. The CEA demonstrates empathy, openness, inclusiveness, and sensitivity when working with diverse others.
  4. The CEA feels a sense of responsibility and commitment to use the knowledge gained in their higher education experiences to serve others.
