With a longstanding history in translating science to practice within IU Health and other medical and community sites as well as a facilitator of state and community-level interdisciplinary teams, the HANDS in Autism® Interdisciplinary Training and Resource Center is making a significant impact in the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other special needs as well as their families and caregivers statewide and beyond. The evidence-based behavioral and educational practices at the core of the HANDS Model have had noted feasibility and practicality to providers and other stakeholders across settings (educational, medical/clinical, home/community). In addition, though the focus and expertise of HANDS is well recognized in ASD and related disabilities, consumers and stakeholders alike appreciate that the same behavioral and educational principles and practices are relevant and useful to a wide range of individuals across functioning levels and the lifespan.

Student Support Specialist
Position overview
Student support specialists will be comprised of part-time staff and/or students with a degree or current enrollment in psychology, education, special education, social work, or related human services fields with interest in working to support (1) access and navigation of services, training, and resources for individuals, families/caregivers, professionals, and community members alike, and (2) overall HANDS Center operations and program monitoring specific to the student’s experience and current Center needs.
Duties
Student support specialists will work up to 20 hours/week. Ongoing responsibilities are overseen and supported by the HANDS leadership and administrative team; however, various duties will provide opportunity to work within the dynamic team-based environment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Updating of multiple HANDS in Autism® project calendars
- Returning calls and emails to potential/current consumers
- Scheduling client visits and filing paperwork
- Sending communication to training participants
- Assisting with updating event tracking spreadsheets
- Assisting with preparing and proofing communications
- Assisting with compiling reports on open cases within the client management systems and tracking areas
- Participating in data collection, entry and representation for clients and activities
- Participating in data collection, entry, and representation for overall Center efforts in relationship to activities, satisfaction, users/consumers and other areas of program reporting and evaluation

Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Availability:
- Requires weekly availability of 20 hours/week between 8:00am - 5:00pm with blocks of at least 3 hours duration
Education and Experience:
- Enrollment as a student within Indiana University and access to or ability to work on the IUPUI campus
- Candidates with experience in a customer service-related setting or health services field are encouraged to apply
