The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that prepare students for careers in a global economy and are recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally for our excellence in teaching and learning, research and creative activities, and community engagement. The department of Technology Leadership and Communication is seeking good communicators to fill two work-study positions.

These positions will have the following general duties:
  • Provide friendly greetings and customer service for all department guests
  • Direct guests and students to correct locations or waiting areas for scheduled appointments
  • Maintain the work room and main desk areas
  • Assist faculty and staff with project work
  • Answer telephone, take messages, and email messages to faculty/staff
  • Assist part-time and full-time faculty with print jobs/copies/and other tasks as requested
  • Assist faculty in setting up Canvas course sites
  • Collect mail and distribute to mailboxes; send outgoing mail
  • Fill copier/printers with white bond paper; maintain organization of all work room supplies
  • Assist with file management where within FERPA guidelines
  • Seek new tasks from staff/faculty
  • Answer student emails requesting permissions and contact course coordinators
  • Answer general emails about programs – forward to appropriate instructor in our department
  • Update the third floor TV slideshows
  • When textbooks are requested contact publisher
  • Update listservs in all mailing list

Required Qualifications:
  • Current IUPUI student, work-study qualified
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Reliable, self-driven, goal-oriented team player
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Canvas
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willing to learn from mistakes and ask questions
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of technology & tools (ex. WCMS, Adobe Acrobat, MS Teams, MS Sharepoint, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in an office setting
  • Coursework in technical communication, organizational leadership, business communication, and/or STEM disciplines

Through their work in this position, students will become acquainted with the following profile:
Communicator – Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with peers, fellow students, and faculty members. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students with their inquiries.
