Resource Sharing & Delivery Services Student Assistant (Mailroom)

Job Description: As part of the Resource Sharing & Delivery Services Team, the Student Assistant is trained to work in both areas of RSDS: Interlibrary loan and the mailroom.

Number of Openings: 2
Work Schedule: (Tuesday & Thursday Noon-5pm) or (Monday, Wednesday & Friday Noon-5pm)

Duties will include:
 
A. Interlibrary Loan (Hours of operation: M-F, 8am-5pm)
  • Retrieving books and journals from the shelves
  • Scanning journal articles
  • Preparing packages for mailing
  • Processing materials using the circulation and interlibrary loan systems
  • Other duties as assigned
B. Mailroom (Hours of operation: M-F, 8am-5pm)
  • Providing mailroom coverage for the library services associate
  • Receiving incoming deliveries
  • Preparing UPS and courier shipments
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a busy environment, handle multiple priorities, and learn new procedures quickly
  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks; attention to detail
  • Familiarity with computers and basic office equipment
  • Ability to push book carts and lift 20-50 lbs.

Students will learn the following skills in this position:
Communicator – Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with students, faculty, staff and external personnel. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting others.
Problem Solver – Students will work with minimal supervision and learn to solve various job related problems.
