AHEC Research Assistant-Graduate Student level

SUMMARY: Research Assistants provide project assistance to faculty investigators and professional staff, as directed. The Department of Family Medicine Area Health Education Center faculty and staff will provide the necessary training and guidance to complete assigned tasks. The faculty and staff view RA positions as a learn by-doing opportunity that benefits both the Department and the learner.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in project discussions
Participate in meetings, as invited
Help draft project proposals
Conduct literature reviews
Collect \ gather data and information
Organize and maintain data management systems and data sets
Conduct data entry
Conduct data analysis
Maintain quality control of data
Create tables and figures to illustrate the results of data analysis projects
Help draft reports and manuscripts
EXPECTED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook
Ability to communicate fluently in English, written and verbal form
Interest in learning research related skill sets
Interest in learning basic skills in data management systems, such as Salesforce and Canvas
Interest in learning program evaluation
Strong analytical skills
Strong technical writing skills
RESPONSIBILITIES: RAs are expected to work \ act independently and are largely self-supervised in accordance with a professional working environment. RAs will interact with each other and members of the department other than their direct supervisor to complete assignments. This interaction is a significant part of both their work and their education.
COMMITMENT: The RA position typically requires 15 - 20 hours per week of effort and pays $17.50 per hour. There is no tuition remission or other fringe benefits other than the employer portion of social security tax. RAs establish their work schedule with their supervisor. The general expectation is that all working hours will be during regular business hours of the Department (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday).
