Diversity Affairs is part of the Office of Faculty Affairs | Professional Development | Diversity (FAPDD) at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Diversity Affairs provides programming and support specifically designed for individuals underrepresented in medicine and open to all learners, faculty, and staff. Our programs are sensitive to the environment for diverse individuals, and we encourage multiple perspectives to help us to more effectively address health disparities and deliver culturally competent care.
 
We are seeking a fulltime graduate assistant to support overall diversity education of the IUSM community and the retention of diverse students, faculty, and staff at IUSM.  This graduate assistant position will cover tuition for the 2021-2022 academic year, student health insurance, and stipend. The Graduate Assistant will report to the Director of Diversity Initiatives.
 
Duties include:
·      Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of initiatives and programs to support diverse faculty, students, and staff. (30%)
·      Create scholarly items (e.g. reports, literature reviews, presentations) that will be used for system level decision making (30%)
·      Support retention initiatives for students from marginalized populations, especially those who are minorities in academic medicine underrepresented. (20%)
·      Assist with the daily operations and signature programs of the Diversity Affairs office as needed. (10%)
·      Other duties as assigned. (10%)
 
Qualifications:
·      Previous experience with diversity and social justice education, training, and/or curriculum preferred.
·      Knowledge of and/or interest in the experiences of diverse students and faculty, especially those in STEM/medicine
·      Excellent communication and leadership skills.
·      Experience in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research methodologies.
·      Ability to work with wide range of audiences, such as students, faculty, and staff.
·      Excellent planning and organizational skills.
·      Ability to think critically and solve problems, quickly and efficiently.
·      Self-directed and "can-do" attitude.
 
The position is 20 hours per week, and requires on-site work at the IUSM Diversity Affairs office in Indianapolis. We especially encourage students from diverse backgrounds to apply. Compensation includes a full tuition waiver and stipend.
