Diversity Affairs Coordinator

IU School of Medicine Faculty Affairs, Professional Development, and Diversity (FAPDD) is looking for a student worker to help us diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across IU School of Medicine. This part-time (15-20 hours a week) student position will provide you with hands-on experience in the field of DEI and strategic organizational development.

FAPDD programs and services need to be thoughtfully communicated to faculty across nine campuses to more than 5,000 faculty and learners. The communications assistant will support these efforts by fulfilling the following duties:
•                    15% Input data into the IUSM FAPDD system(s) checking for accuracy and completeness (evaluation forms, attendance, etc.)
•                    45% Working with Office of Diversity staff and leadership to support DEI programming and initiatives
•                    25% Updating and reviewing content on the FAPDD intranet site (faculty.medicine.iu.edu) and the external IU School of Medicine site (medicine.iu.edu)
•                    15% Manage correspondence with IUSM Cultural Affinity Student Interest Groups (SIGs)
Examples of projects could be:
•                    Supporting logistics for events like the Stepping Stones of Women in Leadership Series
•                    Updating and review of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion webpages. 

Required

•        Possess at least a sophomore status at IUPUI
•        Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
•        Must be reliable and able to manage time to work on multiple projects
•        Must be able to work independently/autonomously as well be a collaborative team member
•        Demonstrates creativity and critical thinking
•        Strong skills in the following areas:
o  Organization
o  Problem Solving
o  Writing/Composition

Nice to have

•        Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
•        Familiar with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
•        Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs (particularly Excel).

Due to COVID-19 precautions the FAPDD team is working remotely, including students. 

What you will Learn:
Critical and Creative Thinking – Students will learn how to apply their critical and creative thinking skills to develop marketing and communication assets that achieve specific goals (such as event registration, program applicant enrollment numbers, general awareness and more). Students will learn how to use the power of storytelling to write engaging blogs, and learn from professional communicators and editors.
Teamwork and Problem Solving – Students will learn to collaborate more effectively with others by participating on team projects in FAPDD. They will learn how to stay organized and manage their time effectively by balancing multiple marketing and communication projects simultaneously.
