CEA Program: Adapted Movement Programs Community Engagement Associate

Overview of department:
In the kinesiology department, students will not just study health and wellness. Students will incorporate what they learn in class and apply it in a real-life setting. Through service learning, woven into kinesiology curriculum, students gain hands-on experience in the Indianapolis community.

Project summary:
Community Engagement Associates assist with the planning and implementation of the service learning experience for students and children/adults with disabilities in the community. Due to their high level of experience in working with individuals with disabilities, they will be able to enhance the students' skills who are taking the class which ultimately improves the service delivery our students provide their clients in a one-on- one environment. Families within our community appreciate seeing staff assist students and enjoy interacting with them weekly.

Specific tasks that the community engagement associate will complete: 
Duties of the position typically include the following:
  • Weekly planning and debriefing meetings prior to and after each clinic session
  • Weekly clinic organization/ set-up/ and clean-up CEA mentoring and assisting during clinic
  • Critical thinking and discussion regarding adjustments for clinic
  • Assistance with keeping attendance records, client information, and parent communication

Specific qualifications (knowledge, skills, class standing, etc) we desire the project coordinator to have:
Communication and collaboration skills, leadership, knowledge of working with disability population, interest in increasing physical activity levels for individuals with disabilities

By the end of this position assignment, the student will meet the following learning objectives
