Summary of the Position:
The Graduate Assistant for Student Success is a two-year position and works in Educational Partnerships & Student Success (EPSS) within the Division of Student Affairs at IUPUI. This role works to create a challenging yet supportive learning environment for first- and second-year students. The graduate assistant supports a variety of duties including actively co-advising University College Student Council (UCSC), coordinating components of Weeks of Welcome (WOW), and supporting Division of Student Affairs programming throughout summer orientation and Bridge Week.

The graduate assistant will create outlets to connect students with co-curricular learning opportunities through faculty resources, division-wide collaborations, and campus communications. As part of the EPSS staff, this role will assist with other unit initiatives as needed, including Parent and Family Programs, Sophomore Success Services, Advancing Women Mentoring Program, and orientation initiatives.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Co-advise the University College Student Council (UCSC) including leadership training and development for officers, support recruitment and marketing initiatives, and assist with coordination of student-led programming.
  • Maintain regular contact with UCSC student leaders and co-advisors regarding all student organization activities.
  • Facilitate the review of all UCSC funding proposals, approve proposals based on guidelines, and communicate awards/next steps.
  • Provide support to Weeks of Welcome (WOW) through the recruitment, training, and co-supervision of student volunteers; assist with the development, implementation, and marketing of co-curricular experiences.
  • Collaborate with unit staff and campus partners in the planning, coordination, and implementation of orientation programming for the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Create and maintain campus-wide communication tools targeted to first-year students, second-year students, and campus partners provided through EPSS.
  • Assist with unit program assessments and data collection for all areas of responsibility related to programs, services, communications, and professional development.
  • Provide additional office support regarding the completion of office management tasks and advisement of student employees.
  • Assist in knowledge and data management through research of current best practices in the fields of Higher Education and Student Affairs while also developing an intentional plan for implementation.
  • Contribute as an active team member of the unit, assisting with additional tasks and initiatives as needed.
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree along with acceptance into and continuous enrollment in a graduate level academic program at IUPUI. Knowledge of and experience working directly with students, ideally first-year and second-year students is strongly preferred. Previous customer service work experience, strong work ethic, attention to detail, dependable time management skills, and strong interpersonal relationship skills are required. This position requires a great deal of interaction with students, faculty, and staff; resulting in the need for working independently and/or as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. All employees must have a commitment and interest in working with a diverse staff and serving a diverse population of students and guests. Additionally, it is expected the graduate assistant will be available and committed to 20 hours a week (fall and spring semesters) during regular business hours, some evenings and weekends (as needed), and be in attendance for all meetings and trainings. Candidates with commitment to working 20 hours a week during the fall and spring along with up to 25 hours a week during the summer are preferred.
 
Compensation:
  • $10,000 stipend over a 10-month period ($1,000 per month) beginning in August and ending in May of each academic year. Hourly employment during the summer months for up to 25 hours per week, with compensation set at $15 per hour. 
  • Nine credit hours of in-state tuition remission during the fall and spring semesters of employment (out-of-state tuition cost difference must be covered by the student).
  • IU Student Health Insurance coverage.
