Connection Ambassador

Educational Partnerships and Student Success (EPSS) is housed within the Division of Student Affairs and is dedicated to creating partnerships both on and off campus and providing quality programs and services that empower students and their families to become engaged members of the IUPUI community.

Educational Partnerships and Student Success (EPSS) is offering a leadership development opportunity for 10 undergraduate/graduate students to support other students, parents, families and supporters who are navigating transition to and through IUPUI. The Ambassadors position is an opportunity to help individuals learn more about campus resources, getting connected, and tips on how to become an engaged member of the IUPUI community. The Ambassador role will serve as a representative for EPSS and the Division of Student Affairs by specifically supporting Explore the Roar Orientation sessions, Family Move-in Experience, and Weeks of Welcome in August and September.  

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Enrolled IUPUI undergraduate/graduate student 
  • In good standing academically and judicially with the university 
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA 
  • At least 24 credit hours completed 
  • Must be available to work the following days and times:  

Explore the Roar days:  
  • Fri, July 30 from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. & 2-4:30 p.m.  
  • Mon, Aug. 2 – Fri, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. & 2-4:30 p.m. 
  • Fri, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. & 2-4:30 p.m. 

Family Move-in Experience  
  • Sat, Aug. 14 from 7:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.  
  • Sun, Aug. 15 from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Sat, Aug. 21 from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Sun, Aug. 22 from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  

Weeks of Welcome  
  • Aug. 23 – Sep. 3, 10-15 hours per week  
 
AMBASSADORS SHOULD: 
  • Possess strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and verbal) skills. 
  • Have the ability to work well with others individually and in small groups. 
  • Work effectively with diverse populations. 
  • Be able to observe, adapt, and respond to needs within office program implementation.  
  • Be involved in student life at IUPUI. (This may include clubs/organizations, campus leadership positions, athletics, community service, etc.) 
  • Be able to demonstrate and articulate the benefits of being involved on-campus and introduce students to campus resources to help them succeed. 
  • Possess knowledge and demonstrate enthusiasm for the IUPUI campus and community. 
  • Have prior experience planning programs and/or events. 
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork experience. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Express the benefits and importance of being involved on-campus to students and families. 
  • Share information and knowledge about campus resources. 
  • Represent EPSS and/or the Division of Student Affairs to students and families at orientation and/or various campus events as needed. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned.  
 
COMPENSATION:  
  • $10.15 per hour

  • Build positive relationships with staff and students to create cohesive teams, enact values and meet shared goals (PLUS+, Problem Solvers & Community Contributor).

Parent and Family Programs: 
  • Description: Parent and Family Programs at IUPUI is housed in the Educational Partnerships and Student Success office within the Division of Student Affairs. Students who experience parent and family support are more likely to succeed and persist to graduation. Parent and Family Programs is a one-stop for all incoming and current parents, families and supporters of IUPUI students to provide resources and support throughout their student’s college journey.

Weeks of Welcome (WOW):  
  • Description: WOW is a large-scale, IUPUI campus tradition which typically takes place during the first two weeks of the fall and spring semesters. WOW is a student focused initiative which aims to welcome both new and returning students to IUPUI while providing both fun and engaging experiences. WOW provides opportunities for all members of the campus community to build and/or strengthen relationships with each other (i.e., students, staff, faculty, and administrators); it also helps students increase their knowledge and awareness of various campus resources and support services (both curricular and co-curricular).

Explore the Roar  
  • The Explore the Roar events are scheduled to take place the end of July and first week of August. These events will be open house style with students and their guest being able to Explore campus and campus resources on their own. We will have two sessions each day; 10:00 – 12:30 and 2:00 – 4:30 and orientation leaders will be stationed around campus to help guide visitors as they Explore campus. Our hope is to offer a campus resource fair and student involvement fair as part of these events.
