This position would primarily be working in the Lymphocyte lab at the IUGB (IU Genetics Biobank).
 
Helping the lab with tasks, such as:
Big LCL project of inventorying, discarding and consolidating remaining frozen lymphocyte cell line vials in the LN2 tanks to free up some space
o   involves going to different buildings on campus, depending on where backup tanks are located.
Basic lab chores, including but not limited to:
o   autoclaving
o   checkout sheets
o   restocking supplies
o   inventorying supplies
Data management, both in Excel and within our lab database
o   updating databases and excel sheets as applicable
Miscellaneous tasks or one-off tasks as needed by the cell labs

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess:
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to receive instruction and work independently.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Must have basic computer skills; prefer experience using databases.
  • Must show initiative, personal responsibility and organization, ability to work/communicate effectively with supervisor.

No Experience Necessary.

Skills learned through this position:
Effective communication skills through contact with peers, lead techs and supervisors while working on common projects for the lab. Teamwork while working on same project with other students or lab personnel. Good organizational skills while working with excel files and database. Problem solving by dealing with discrepancies in sample inventories and tracking files. Time management. Proper QC documentation practices and record keeping. Proper handling of biohazard materials. Following SOP driven workflows.
