Fitness Center Attendant

Position Title: Fitness Center Attendant
Organization: Division of Student Affairs
Department: Campus Recreation
Hourly Wage: $10.15
Average Hours/Week: 8-12, additional hours scheduled as needed
Supervisor: Fitness Specialist

General Purpose:
The Fitness Center Attendant is a fitness position with responsibilities in the areas of facility operations and member experience. The role of the Fitness Center Attendant is to meet the needs of all IUPUI Jaguar Fitness Center members. Specifically, the Fitness Center Attendant is responsible for maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for members and acting as the on-site fitness expert for daily patrons.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Aid members with proper use of Strength and Cardiovascular equipment
  • Provide members spots and exercise technique feedback as needed
  • Give equipment orientations to members when requested
  • Assist in oversight of the fitness area including two group exercise studios, two lockers rooms and three gender inclusive restrooms
  • Periodically check outdoor recreation space for usage
  • Maintain a safe and harassment free environment
  • Enforce policies and communicate incidents to supervisor
  • Conduct fitness workshops and programs as requested
  • Aid with maintenance of Strength and Cardiovascular equipment
  • Aid with data tracking of Cardiovascular equipment
  • Assist Members Services Representative as needed
  • Perform laundry duties including
  • Washing facility towels
  • Drying facility towels
  • Replacing facility towels when needed
  • Emptying laundry room drain when needed
  • Clean gender inclusive shower drains when needed
  • Report and communicate to the Fitness Specialist on an on-going basis

Minimum Qualifications:
·        Candidates enrolled in Exercise Science undergraduate/graduate program strongly preferred
·        Candidates must display a passion for health and fitness
·        Candidates must display an eagerness to learn and work with others
·        Ability to lift 45 pounds
