Research Technician (Part-Time)

SUMMARY: The Research Tech will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research in Neuroscience requiring experience in several research techniques and procedures. Coordinate laboratory activities, mouse colony management and aid graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with their experiments. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct a range of laboratory techniques with a degree of independence; this person will aid in conducting research on peripheral nervous system development and regeneration using genetically modified mice.
 
Perform complex techniques or procedures such as: 1) maintaining mouse colonies, including keeping record of the mice, breeding, genotyping, performing injections and participating in tissue collection from animals; 2) frozen and regular immunohistochemistry on nervous system structures; 3) perform immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy.
 
The person will be responsible for maintenance of purchase and receiving logs, maintenance of laboratory equipment, fume hood maintenance and maintenance of cell, chemical and reagent inventories.
 
Provide training to undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, as needed. Train laboratory personnel in mouse colony maintenance and genotyping.
 
Serve as a resource to other laboratory personnel. Keep laboratory records in a notebook on a daily basis.
 
Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions as needed.
 
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Science plus one year of research experience required. Experience with the handling of laboratory mice or rats required.
