Marketing & Communications Intern (School of Science) - On-Campus Internship Program

Position Summary:
The Science Marketing Intern will work directly with the Associate Director of Undergraduate
Recruitment to support the recruitment marketing initiatives planned by the science
marketing/communications/recruitment team.

This internship will offer experience in a few marketing areas including: email development, social
media, graphic design, and video editing. Work may include development of direct mail pieces, writing and designing social media posts, development of mass recruitment emails, and basic assistance with shooting and producing videos.

Students of any major with an interest in marketing, graphic design, or social media are encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• 30% Help design marketing materials including postcards, one-pagers, flyers, invitations, etc.
• 20% Help develop content for and launch recruitment emails in Salesforce.
• 20% Assist with managing Purdue School of Science Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and
YouTube pages and creating content that engages prospects, parents, current students, alumni,
and media
• 20% Assist with video production projects
• 10% Utilize social media metrics to help analyze effectiveness of marketing/communication
strategies

-Work study eligibility
-Strong oral/written communication skills and attention to detail
-Ability to communicate and act professionally at all times to employers, supervisors, and students
-Excellent Organizational Skills
-Ability to work well on a team, and participate in collaborative problem solving, projects, and activities
-Thorough knowledge of Adobe design suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
-Basic knowledge of social media
-Knowledge of Zoom video conferencing
-GPA of 2.5 or higher
-Must be a sophomore or junior by class standing to apply. Freshman with related experience will be considered. Seniors and above will not be considered.
-This position will require the selected student to enroll in an internship course for at least one of the
two semesters worked during the 2021-22

Work Environment:
The work is performed primarily in an office or classroom setting. The noise level in the work
environment is low. At times, work will require being outdoors or in louder environments for video
shoots.

direct mail pieces as part of our recruitment plan.

evaluate the effectiveness of communications. The ability to find solutions to problems and develop new

-Innovator: The ability to design, plan, organize, and implement graphic design projects and tasks within
a specific timeframe. Students will learn how to design and develop communications to educate and
assist prospective students and families.

Student will also learn how to collaborate with academic departments across science, and work with
others on team projects.

Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the On-campus Internship Program and aims to connect IUPUI
undergraduate sophomores and juniors with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of
campus areas/programs. Internships start in August 2021 and end in May 2022 at up to fifteen hours per week. Interns will be required to obtain at least one academic credit in the academic year while participating in their internship experience and will have a site visit from the Office of Student
Employment each semester. On-going coaching and feedback on performance will be provided by
internship supervisors according to a strict timeline of the program. Specific internship projects and
duties will vary by internship.
