Essential duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures.
  • Depending on clinic assignment, may also perform patient reception, phlebotomy/specimen collection duties, rooming patients, and taking vital signs.
  • Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the radiologist and provider.
  • Prepares and positions patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Immobilizes patient as required for examination.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.
  • Initiates basic life support when necessary.
  • Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.
  • Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers.

Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology

Certifications/Licensure
  • ARRT Radiography registration required
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of hire

The employee must frequently lift and/or move patients using appropriate patient transfer equipment; gait belts, Hoyer lift, hovermat, slider boards, etc. Moving (pushing, pulling) patients in wheelchairs and patient carts. Equipment- moving (pushing and pulling) portable imaging equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
