POSITION TITLE Peer Mentor – Purdue School of Engineering & Technology Student Services Office

ORGANIZATION PROFILE Located on the first floor of the Technology Building (ET) in 101, the Student Services Office is home to Scholarships, Recruitment and Retention, Career Services, Advising and the Engineering and Technology Student Council. Our offices act as a resource for current and future Engineering and Technology students who need assistance with obtaining academic advising, scholarships, navigating the application process, or wishing to gain practical experience and ultimately a career in their field of study. These are just a few of the services offered.

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Student Services Office of Purdue School of Engineering and Technology is seeking candidates to act as a Peer Mentor for students on Academic Probation for the first time in a mentoring program called Students Taking Educational Paths for Success (STEPS). This person works under the direction of our Probation Program Coordinators and is an important part of the Student Services Team.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:
• Work with a caseload of probation students, meeting bi-weekly, in a mentoring capacity (75%)
• Maintain contact logs with each mentee and utilize resources needed to assist mentee (5%)
• Attend bi-weekly meetings with STEPS team and any trainings pertaining to mentoring (5%)
• Responsible for developing and presenting student-focused workshops on various topics (10%)
• Enroll in a 1cr ET Student Leader Mentoring course each semester (5%)

• Advising Records (AdRX)
• Student Appointment Scheduler (SAS)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Student Services seeks an energetic, motivated team-oriented individual with the below skills:
• Currently enrolled in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• At least a 1-year commitment to the position
• Strong work ethic, willingness to embrace our organization, and an interest in helping students
 • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
 • Ability to take initiative with a willingness to learn new things
 • Strong verbal and written communication skills
 • Team player
 • Detail oriented

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The Peer Mentor position is a $450/per semester scholarship and expected to work approximately 8 hours a week.

The student will learn many skills including:
• Communication: Student will learn to evaluate information, actively listen, build relationships, and convey ideas effectively
• Innovation: Student will learn to investigate situations, create, and design solutions, confront challenges, and make decisions
• Problem Solving: Student will learn to think critically, collaborate with others, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and situations
• Community Contribution: Student will learn to build community, respectfully engage with all cultures, behave ethically, and anticipate consequences

POSITION TIMING - We are seeking an individual who can begin work in August for the Fall 2021/Spring 2022 semesters and beyond.
