Position Title: Kelley Career Peer
Organization: Kelley Indianapolis Career Services (KICS)
Department: Office of Academic and Professional Development
Hourly Wage: $10.15
Number of Openings: 1-2
Hours Per Week: 15-20 hours
Reports to: Associate Director, Student Services
 
Position Type: Regular Student Temporary, Part-time, Work-Study
Majors Preferred: Undergraduate Business Degree
Desired Work Schedule: Flexible within regular working hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
Kelley School of Business, 801 W. Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN
Academic Term: August 2021 start, with the option to start early July, and continue past academic year based on performance and student eligibility
 
The Purpose of Career Peer:
Career Peers help business students prepare for job and internship searches. They do this by working with students to craft professional resumes and cover letters, and prepare for interviews and career fairs through one-on-one meetings and group workshops. Additionally, this role will assist in developing, planning, and implementing workshops and events. Paid training will be provided.
 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Approximate Hours Per Week)
 
●     Career Coaching- 5-8 Hours:
○     Conduct drop-in career coaching on topics such as resume, cover letter, career fair prep, and general interviewing during in-person & online drop-ins hours.
○     Review and provide feedback on resumes submitted to KelleyCareers.
 
●     Events & Programs 4-7 Hours:
  • Create and facilitate student-facing events for the semester under direction from Associate Director of Student Services. Events include:
  • Career Fair Prep Events
  •  Resume & Cover Letter Labs
  • Career Webinars supporting the BUS-X220 courses
  • Assisting with the management of the Kelley Corporate Experience site visit program
  • Create marketing materials to advertise KICS events and programs (newsletter, social media posts, announcements)
  • Represent KICS at events such as Kelley Convocation, Are You Ready for Kelley?, Major & Career Info Day, Fall Career Week, etc.
 
●     Special Projects- 2-3 Hours:
○     Work on special projects, as assigned by various KICS staff members
 
●     Training & Mentoring- 1-2 Hours:
○     Assist in the training & mentoring of new Kelley Career Peers
 
 
Required Qualifications:
●     Current Kelley Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
●     Successfully completed BUS-X220 with an ‘A’
●     Experience in training, mentoring or leading others
●     Excellent written and verbal communication skills
●     Exercise confidentiality when working with sensitive information
●     Ability to work autonomously and in a team
●     Be a positive representative of Kelley Indianapolis Career Services
 
Preferred Qualifications
●     Experience using KelleyCareers
●     Prior event planning experience
●     Completion of ICORE
●     Successfully completed BUS-X320 with an ‘A’

In accordance with the IUPUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success, students in this role will develop in the following areas:
●     Communicator- Career Peers will learn to evaluate information through resume and cover letter reviews. They will practice active listening and effectively convey information when meeting with students. They will also build trust with fellow students and support them in their goals throughout the course of their career and internship search.
●     Community Contributor- Career Peers will gain the ability to respectfully and ethically engage amongst a variety of cultures. They will demonstrate flexibility in working alongside professional staff members on various projects. Career Peers will accept the responsibility of fully supporting the mission of Kelley Indianapolis Career Services.
