Career Services Intern - On-Campus Internship program

General Purpose: This internship is an opportunity for an undergraduate student to learn more about career services within higher education. This position will mostly provide student-facing services including: drop-in job services, event support, campus outreach, occasional online reviews of application materials, and additional assistance with student services. Overall, the ambassador brings the student perspective to the department and offers career development services to the IUPUI student population and campus community. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to learn about more facets of career services and take on additional tasks throughout the office.

Average Hours/Week: 10-15 hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Broken down by percentage/week
 
·        40% - presenting office information and engagement opportunities to students, parents, and faculty, staff, and community members during special events, clubs/students organizations, orientation resources fairs, information tables, and resource fairs.  
 
·        40% – assisting students one on one during drop-in hours and scheduled appointments to provide information about the IUPUI Office of Student Employment services, assist in basic job search and resume building as well as market upcoming programs and events.
 
·        10% - reviewing online student-submitted resume and cover letter drafts and providing detailed and tailored feedback in a timely and professional manner
 
·        10% - This position is expected to have ongoing special projects arise throughout the year based on office needs and programming. 
 
On-Campus Internship Program Summary
This internship is offered as a part of the On-campus Internship Program and aims to connect IUPUI undergraduate freshman, sophomores, and juniors with internships on-campus with faculty and staff in a variety of campus areas/programs. Internships start in August and end in May. Interns will be required to obtain at least one academic credit in the academic year while participating in their internship experience and will have a site visit from the Office of Student Employment during their experience. On-going coaching and feedback on performance will be provided by internship supervisors according to a strict timeline of the program. Specific internship projects and duties will vary by internship. Students in this program will be expected to participate in a public showcase of learning at the end of year to outline their experience, and will be required to participate in additional development throughout the year. In the future, students will be able to indicate their On-Campus Internship experience on their IUPUI Experiential and Applied Learning Record.

 
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Availability:
·        Prefer some availability from 1:00-3:00 PM Tuesday, Wednesday AND/OR Thursday weekly
 
Education and Experience:
·        Enrolled as a student at IUPUI
·        Completed at least one semester at IUPUI
·        Previous work experience while enrolled as a student
·        Experience assisting students with navigating campus and community resources preferred
·        Students with previous mentoring experience are encouraged to apply
·        Students with previous experience with public speaking and/or group presentations are encouraged to apply.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
·        Demonstrated skill in communicating individually and in small group formats.
·        Basic knowledge of Office of Student Employment services, student employment opportunities on campus, and benefits of working through college
·        Ability to tailor communication to different groups and audiences preferred
·        Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
·        Ability to professionally communicate student perspectives to staff and administrators.
·        Ability to learn new technology in support of events, marketing tactics, and office support.
·        Ability to positively represent IUPUI and the Office of Student Employment
