Technology Services Consultant

Under the supervision of members from the Client Support Team Management (CST), the Technology Services Consultant (TSC) provides direct technical support & assistance to students, faculty, staff, and guests seeking technical advice on computer, networking and software services in IUPUI University Library public areas. Similarly, TSCs provide event room and technology support for University Library’s twelve event spaces. TSCs are responsible for maintaining the public technology clusters and completing special projects.
Excellent customer service and technical skills are required along with the ability to work under minimal supervision. This is a work study only position with typical weekly hours ranging from 12 to 28 hours per week.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THIS ROLE
1. Communicator – Students will learn the ability to present information in an understandable manner, even when dealing with a complex situation. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by aiding patrons in a positive, helpful manner and by addressing patrons needs courteously, professionally and efficiently using available resources and proper referrals.

2. Problem Solver – Students will work together in a team-based environment learning from professionals & cohorts in other departments, cooperating with others, and readily volunteering to aid others. Students will gain diagnostic skills through working together to plan and organize workload to efficiently carry out both individual and group tasks as well as handle changes that arise in workload or priorities.

3. Innovator – Students will gain a working knowledge of software and hardware of University Library (UL) computers, general UL technology equipment; understanding policies and procedures which apply to those technologies. This position teaches students how to effectively perform tasks with good reasoning and problem-solving skills through building confidence, teamwork, and commitment.

4. Community Contributor – Students working with University Library officials and other in the community create and support a working environment that embraces diversity among student employees, IU Affiliates, and the general population at large. This position will provide students with skills to service all users with an understanding that such actions contributes to an inclusive library experience for all patrons.
