Office Assistant - Physics Department

Physics Department Mission:
The physics department at IUPUI devotes itself to this mission:
  • Deliver a high quality education in physics to our undergraduate majors and our graduate students
  • Provide high quality courses in physics and astronomy to students in other disciplines at IUPUI
  • Conduct world class research in select areas of physics
  • Serve as a resource for the University and the community in central Indiana, and complement the roles played by IU and PU within the state.
  • Develop and foster an environment in the Department within which faculty members can thrive as they contribute to the teaching, research and service missions of the University.

Job Duties and Percentages:
To help the Physics department with everyday office duties to ensure a smooth operating department.
  • Answer phone 20%
  • Greet visitors 45%
  • Assist faculty and students 20%
  • Check mail and distribute 5%
  • Routine maintenance of office (check copier, inventory supplies) 10%


In accordance with the IUPUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success, experience in this position will help students become acquainted with the following profiles:
  • Communicator: Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with peers and fellow students. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students in their job search.
  • Innovator: Students will learn how to stay organized and manage their time effectively by balancing various administrative tasks in an office setting.  

We are looking for someone who is available beginning Summer 1 and be able to continue into the fall and spring.
